What this site is for
RateIntelUSA tracks what American banks, credit unions and lenders are actually paying and charging, and publishes it in a form you can compare. Savings and money market rates, certificates of deposit, Treasury yields, mortgage rates, credit cards and account opening bonuses, updated on a schedule rather than whenever someone gets around to it.
The premise is straightforward: the difference between a 0.40% savings account at a national bank and a 4.50% account at an online one is thousands of dollars over a few years, and the only reason most people leave that money behind is that comparing the options is tedious. Removing the tedium is the whole product.
Where the data comes from
Rates come from institutions' own published disclosures, from federal sources including the U.S. Treasury and the FDIC, and from direct feeds where an institution provides one. Lottery results come from official state lottery data. Every figure carries the date it was collected, and pages show that date rather than implying the number is live to the second.
Our full sourcing and update rules are on the methodology page.
How we make money
Some links to banks and card issuers are affiliate links, and we may be paid when someone opens an account through one. That relationship never determines which products are listed or how they are ranked — a table sorted by APY shows the highest APY first whether or not we are paid for it, and products from institutions that pay us nothing appear throughout the site. The full statement is on the advertiser disclosure page, and the rules our writers work under are on the editorial policy page.
What we are not
We are not a bank, a broker, a lender or a financial adviser, and nothing here is personal financial advice. We publish comparative information; what to do with your money depends on circumstances we do not know. For decisions with tax consequences, a professional who can see your whole position is worth the fee.
Corrections
If a rate on this site is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say when it was fixed. Rate data at this volume has errors in it; pretending otherwise is worse than owning them. Write to hello@rateintelusa.com or use the contact page.
